I am in the process of porting a very long piece I wrote about James Damore's bad science for Medium to a new DW-for-my-pro-science-writing that I can link people to a little more comfortably, because I am straight up more comfortable on DW than on Medium.

But also, it is suuuuper long and the HTML is suuuuuper boring and I made one mistake I need to fix to feel good about myself and uuuuugh I'll feel better when I'm done but

I am seriously considering turning it into a Calibre book just so I can use a system of regex I know for a fact is in Python. I don't know what language Atom's Regex is using, but thanks: I hate it.

(The worst thing is that originally I did it on Medium itself with weird backhacked HTML ganked from Medium's own code so that I could link to the damn footnotes, and that was hellish in and of itself. I think I was just high on rage and work fumes at that point.)

OH GOD, THE FOOTNOTES

When I did them on my (now dead) book blog, I totally cheated and used a plugin to format them. There needs to be better HTML formatting shortcuts!

I am glad you found it entertaining! Part of the reason I'm moving it to Dreamwidth is that I'd like to do more science writing in the "look at this awesome thing I found" vein, and that's where I'd like to put future stuff so that I can casually link things from my twitter, etc.

I have a lot of things I'd like to gush about and how cool they are, dammit. Gotta find time to do that, though!

I'm always a fan of clear, comprehensible science writing, because I am..... not a science person. At all. I just think a lot of this stuff is cool.

Warning: at least in every style I've tried so far, DW's HTML interpreter ignores the "return to text" link at the end of footnotes.

Someone recently turned me onto using Markdown for formatting drafts, which has actually been pretty awesome since it’s really easy to fix glitches and integrates with LaTeX. And to think, I thought R was only good for statistics and pretty graphs.

You can format your DW posts with Markdown, as well--put
