There's a new census going up as an Asexual Awareness project! Granted, the questions are mostly basic demographics, but it'll still be pretty cool to look at when the results are in.
And hey, they're learning--you do not need an AVEN account to fill this one out and it's actually being promoted in non-AVEN spaces! Mind, they've missed two asexual communities I can think of--neither
asexual_fandom or the Transyada forum are mentioned--but this actually looks like AVEN-based asexual organizers taking baby steps to acknowledge other communities.

Date: 2011-09-14 11:31 am (UTC)Also, for me personally there's communities I spend a lot of time talking in and communities I tend to lurk in because I'm not so confident speaking and communities I occasionally drop by to check on, and it feels weird to list them all as things I'm equally invested in.
agh I have ALL THE FEELINGS about the communities question, except for the FEELINGS I have about the romantic orientation question. (which--oh god I no longer just want to check "aromantic" and leave it like I did the first time, it's gotten exponentially more complicated, but I also hate the term "greyromantic" and I think the "don't draw a distinction" option makes the most sense for me but I don't want to invalidate romantics' orientations and agh. In the end I checked about four boxes and then wrote in a description.)

Date: 2011-09-14 02:43 pm (UTC)I checked and unchecked so many different combinations of options for that question that I don't even know *what* I ended up putting. (I was at one point sorely tempted to put in the "other" box, "My orientation doesn't fit your puny checkboxes!" but I thought that was a bit too bitter of a response, given they appeared to be trying to acknowledge more diversity of romantic orientations than is usually acknowledged.

Date: 2011-09-14 03:54 pm (UTC)You know, I would be much more comfortable just saying "fuck it" and checking the aromantic box (which is, as I've been saying downthread, at least technically correct for me? I think?) if there wasn't that gender differential there. But it IS there, and it does actually matter to me, and just checking "aromantic" with no clarification just feels like not enough information to understand the situation.
