Two of the skeins I bought were sock yarn, actually, because I also wish to learn how to knit socks. This hat is in fact my... *counts* sixth project, of which three have been knit in the round. It is seriously not that hard as long as you are careful not to twist the knitting, and actually I think I like knitting in the round more than I like knitting flat because you don't have to keep flipping the project over.
Mind you, I'm currently in the throes of what I suspect is a new obsession and already beginning to hunt for books on the history of knitting and yarn, sooooooo.... yeah. Heh. Speaking of, happen to know any good ones?
