I don't know Harold Hill very well, but Janine struck me as rather like some of the infectious disease specialists I know--which happen to be... HIV and Ebola researchers. Exacting, very interested in systems, but also really also interested in practical applications at the same time.

god help us all, Gritty is totally a conservationist--and not one of the theoretical ones, either, but one of the more feral fish and game warden types. If I'm going for research, Gritty quite resembles... several of the field ecologists I've known. I can think of several dudes in my department at varying levels of Gritty, and at least one who rivals Gritty at his most malevolent.

I feel like Terry studies something to do with social behavior in mammals, and I'm pretty sure it's involved in parenting or attachment. Not parental investment, but I think Terry gets curious about how and why social connections form.

Alternatively, Terry is the best goddamn lab manager I've ever seen, which is pretty much the role he plays for Holt anyway.

EDIT because I forgot Jake!

Jake is an integrative biologist of the sort that works with me--he can't make up his mind what the hell he wants to study, he gets very excited about a whole number of things, and he periodically bounces off on great ideas and has to be wrangled back to actually finishing his first ones.

which is to say, I have a hard time disentangling Jake-the-person from Jake-the-textbook-case-of-adult-ADHD, and I know an awful lot of Jakes in my department, too. Ha!

Oh, that's easy. Quill is--oh shit, you know what, I was going to say a herper, but that's wrong. Quill is a spider guy. Specifically, Quill is very into jumping spiders--they're very flashy and they like to wave things around and they talk to each other by dancing, you guys. Quill is particularly fond of peacock spiders, but might work on another variety because the whole abdomen drumming thing--they're into the BEAT!
