nah, I went into academia knowing full well what the odds of getting a job were like, and I sat down and soul-searched and finally decided what I wanted out of my career about five years into my PhD
and then the election of 2016 happened a few years later! against all odds, I still want to be here*, but I'm also very... yeah. It's so fucked up. SO fucked up.
*here in academia, not here in my current lab. I'm done here. I want to do something else now, ideally in a more tractable system please. Bugs. Bugs sound good.
