(no subject)
Having finally completed day one of all of my classes, it's time to make the traditional Inventory of Expectations. (Yeah, well, it's a one-day-old tradition. They've got to start sometime!)
Research Analysis seems to have a professor who means well and wants us to pass. As of right now, I like her but am not really expecting to enjoy her class. (I'm also not expecting to work very hard.)
Biochemistry I'm expecting to work hard at and enjoy. It helps that I think the concept is cool, and that the current professor seems to genuinely enjoy what he's teaching. It's always easier to pay attention to a teacher who genuinely seems to enjoy his subject. (Seriously. Why is this so hard for college professors? I mean, yeah this is often fairly entry-level stuff, but you would think they'd want to pass on the enjoyment they got out of the material as newbies to the field to us. Guess not.) To be granted, I did spend the first day trying very hard not to fall asleep, but that's a result of both the heinously simple review work we were going over and very very low blood sugar. And a warm classroom. I don't see it happening again.
Political Science I have real hope for--the professor is the whole reason I took the class, and L insists that he's awesome. I am inclined to believe her, and also suspect that I will have a problem with doing his work way past what's required--hopefully I won't neglect my other classes too much.
And then there's Physics. Right now, impression is that Dr. Physics is rather adorable, but sloooowww and kind of absent-minded. I anticipate losing interest and being repeatedly poked by L, who is taking this one with me, over the course of the semester. (Given that I am currently writing this while in the middle of class, and that it has taken him nearly half an hour to run through a two-page syllabus, I am not optimistic here.) I suppose one class out of four in which I am totally checked out isn't half bad. Last semester it was maybe three--I was partially mentally present in Research Design and Abnormal Psych, and more-or-less totally checked out in Physics I and Organic. Hopefully being able to pay attention will help my GPA this semester.
...well, okay, probably not. Well, a girl can hope, right?
